On Sunday, one of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ star players, Antonio Brown, gained unwelcome media attention from the sidelines. During one point in the game between the Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens near the beginning of the second quarter, his teammate Ben Roethlisberger failed to throw him the ball when he had successfully evaded Ravens players. Instead, oblivious to Antonio Brown’s signals on the field, the Quarterback passed the ball over the head of Le’Veon Bell. Ben Roethlisberger’s decision may have cost the Steelers points in the tense match.
Antonio Brown did not attempt to hide his disgust as he left the field. Cameras caught the wide receiver staging a mini-tantrum. He hefted a large orange empty Gatorade container towards the field before storming to his seat. A moment later he rose and brushed past several black-garbed team staffers trying to calm him down. The incident garnered media headlines within minutes.
A Decisive Steelers Victory
The 5’10” and 181 pound Steeler Wide Receiver’s team did enjoy a significant victory despite the missed pass on the field to Antonio Brown. The Steelers beat the Ravens easily by a score of 26 to 9. Afterwards, during a post-game interview with reporters, Antonio Brown admitted to suffering frustration when he tossed the empty container. He explained he felt “passionate” about football, and noted he had worked very hard preparing for the match against the Ravens. He welcomed the Steelers’ victory.
Sunday’s game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens took place before a large audience at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. The Steelers have not garnered a win in that location during recent matches, so the decisive victory there today will likely delight Pittsburgh fans. Despite operating in their home turf, the Ravens elicited loud boos from the audience at the beginning of the game when the team locked arms and knelt in protest on the field “in prayer” before the playing of the national anthem. Both teams stood for the national anthem on this occasion.
A Successful Wide Receiver
Antonio Brown, who last year appeared as a contestant on the popular reality television series Dancing With The Stars, has played with the Steelers since 2010. Born in Miami, he excelled in college football for several years at Central Michigan before entering the NFL Draft. Earlier this year, he signed a new contract with the Steelers.
